The IR Functionality in Network cameras

The IR IP camera is designed to be used in outdoor installations or in indoor environments with poor lighting, which can achieve 24hours surveillance with clear image even in o lux environment.

The network camera delivers color images during the day. As light diminishes below a certain level, the camera can automatically switch to night mode to make use of near infrared (IR) light to deliver high-quality, black and white images.

Infrared light, which spans from 700 nanometers (nm) up to about 1000 nm, is beyond what the human eye can see, but most camera sensors can detect it and make use of it. IR light is filtered out so that it does not distort the colors of images as the human eye sees them. When the camera is in night (black and white) mode, the IR-cut filter is removed, allowing the camera’s light sensitivity to reach down to 0.001 lux or lower. In this time, suppose there is distant infrared LED, which can provide distant infrared illumination, a more crystal image will be showed than Day & Night camera.

Mission

PT. PLN, which is a state-own electricity provider located in middle Java, is responsible for all power plan in south east of Sulawesi of Indonesia. The Operational Coverage of PLN encompasses almost the entire Indonesian territories that consist of more than 13,000 islands. As it develops, PT. PLN wants to build automatic substations, which has no operators, only security guards and a supervisor. PT. Mitra Lima Sinergi designed the whole solution with Multipix' hardware and software.

Solution

Multipix offer MP264HS series high resolution IP cameras with ultra high quality/price ratio strength beating all other competitors. The entire system is designed with MP264HS-706 IP Speed Dome and MP264HS-500. Four HS-700 H.264 IP Speed Dome cameras are mounted outdoor for surveillance in switchyard area and main gate. Another two MP264 HS-706 and two MP264HS-500 fix cameras are mounted indoor for surveillance in Control & Relay room, 20 kV Switchgear room, Battery room and PLC room. By using the MPWEB Hybrid software , the operation of the Substation will be done remotely from Main Substation or Regional office.

Result

MP264HS-706 is H.264 encoded IP PTZ dome camera displaying pin-sharp images, with 27x zoom, 360°/s pan speed and 1280*720 high resolution which is cost effective in the outdoor surveillance. MP264HS-500 is H.264 IP Fixed Dome with excellent image quality. By implementing Multipix IP cameras, the operator can access all cameras remotely and operate remotely from Main Substation or Regional office through PLN's dedicated Ethernet WAN.
In addition, By using FTP Server, the recording video can be saved in a remote PC automatically, just setup the ftp server info in camera config from camera IE interface; you can playback the video files via MP Video Player from remote.
